Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari ने Mumbai-Goa highway widening project की लंबी delay पर public criticism किया है और कहा कि वह eventual inauguration में शामिल नहीं होंगे. Goa में उन्होंने contractor failure की बात कही और poor-quality work तथा administrative lapses पर action का संकेत दिया.
Story सिर्फ एक road की नहीं है. Large infrastructure projects land acquisition, contractor capacity, litigation, utility shifting, financing, design changes और inter-agency coordination के कारण delay हो सकते हैं. जब delay सालों तक चले तो travel time, logistics, safety, maintenance और public trust पर cost बढ़ती है.
Governance lesson यह है कि infrastructure performance को सिर्फ sanctioned project value या announced kilometres से नहीं, delivery और lifecycle quality से measure करना चाहिए. Transparent milestone tracking, enforceable contracts, independent quality checks और repeated non-performance पर consequences public capital expenditure की quality के लिए जरूरी हैं.
