Karnataka Cabinet ने colleges में student-union elections पर 37 साल पुरानी रोक हटाने की recommendations clear की हैं. The Indian Express के मुताबिक framework formal political-party affiliation की अनुमति नहीं देता और जहां students election चाहते हैं वहां institution को election कराना होगा. Students election न चाहें तो उसे skip किया जा सकता है.
Proposed structure में office-bearer posts और women representation शामिल है, लेकिन government ने caste-based reservation नहीं रखा है. इसलिए representation का design खुद policy debate का हिस्सा है.
बड़ा governance सवाल यह है कि universities democratic participation की space कैसे बनाएं, बिना intimidation, partisan capture या academic disruption के. Student elections public leadership का training ground हो सकते हैं, लेकिन उनकी credibility transparent rules, expenditure control, grievance mechanism और institutional neutrality पर निर्भर करेगी.
