The August 2026 Periodic Labour Force Survey shows a modest improvement in several labour-market indicators for people aged 15 and above under the Current Weekly Status measure.
Overall Labour Force Participation Rate rose to 55.6%, while the Worker Population Ratio increased to 52.8%, the highest level recorded since March 2026. Overall unemployment remained stable at 5.0%, while rural unemployment declined to 4.1%. Female LFPR was 34.8%, up 1.1 percentage points from a year earlier.
The figures are useful for tracking direction, but they should not be read as a complete measure of job quality. Labour-force participation, employment status, earnings, hours worked and formality answer different questions about the labour market.
