The Commerce and Industry Ministry launched the National Strategic Trade Command Centre at Vanijya Bhawan on 15 October. It is designed to support data-driven monitoring, product-wise and market-wise analysis, trade intelligence and identification of export opportunities for policy and operational decisions.
The launch also highlighted the SCOMET dashboard, which tracks applications involving Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies. The Commerce Minister asked officials to clear pending applications expeditiously through regular inter-ministerial review. The centre is therefore both an analytical platform and a coordination mechanism; it is not a new trade agreement or export subsidy.
For civil-services preparation, NSTCC illustrates how digital public infrastructure and administrative data can be used for industrial and trade policy. Its value will depend on data quality, interoperability, analytical capacity and whether faster processing preserves export-control and national-security safeguards.
