The International Monetary Fund's October 2026 World Economic Outlook says the global economy remains resilient but increasingly uneven. Global growth is projected at 3.1% in 2026 and 3.4% in 2027, with the Fund highlighting the opposing effects of energy and commodity shocks on one side and AI-linked investment and technology demand on the other.

The October WEO database places India's 2026 real GDP growth projection at 7.0% on the IMF's calendar-year presentation. IMF country projections must be handled carefully because India is also commonly discussed on a fiscal-year basis; calendar-year and fiscal-year growth numbers are not interchangeable.

For civil-services preparation, the key analytical themes are external shocks, energy-import dependence, global inflation, technology investment and fiscal buffers. A strong India projection does not insulate the economy from oil prices, trade fragmentation, financial conditions or weaker demand in partner economies.
