Reuters के अनुसार Gujarat investigation में 5 lakh से ज्यादा fake Gmail accounts से जुड़ा network सामने आने के बाद Indian police Google से पूछताछ की तैयारी कर रही है.
Police का कहना है कि accounts और login credentials 2022 से use हो रहे थे और government offices समेत institutions को भेजे गए hoax bomb-threat emails से जुड़े थे. Investigators यह भी देख रहे हैं कि कुछ accounts cross-border buyers को बेचे गए थे या नहीं और payments में cryptocurrency use हुई या नहीं.
Case दो अलग policy questions उठाता है. पहला criminal investigation और cross-border attribution का है. दूसरा platform responsibility का - जब standard security tools जैसे two-factor authentication के बावजूद large-scale abuse हो, तब account-creation safeguards कैसे design किए जाएं.
