The Ministry of Education extended the application deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme for academic year 2026-27 to 31 October 2026.

The revised schedule sets 15 November as the deadline for Institute Nodal Officer verification and 30 November for District Nodal Officer verification. Eligible students must complete One-Time Registration on the National Scholarship Portal before submitting the scholarship application.

NMMSS is designed to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections and reduce dropout after Class VIII. The scholarship amount is ₹12,000 per year for eligible students under the scheme.

For readers, the most important distinction is between an application deadline and eligibility. An extended date does not change the scheme’s eligibility conditions, and applicants should use the official National Scholarship Portal rather than third-party sites. For civil-services preparation, the update illustrates how scholarship delivery combines central policy with verification by educational and district authorities.
