The Social Justice Ministry highlighted the SETU National Scholarship Portal mobile application on 1 October as a single interface for scholarship-related services. The app supports registration, biometric authentication, application submission and status tracking.
The service is intended for eligible beneficiaries of Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarship schemes administered by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, including Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class students. The app was originally launched earlier in 2026; the latest update is an implementation and access push rather than a brand-new scheme.
A single mobile workflow can reduce the need to navigate multiple portals, but digital simplification does not remove every access barrier. Device ownership, connectivity, biometric failures, language usability and the ability to correct data mismatches can still determine whether an eligible student completes the process.
For civil-services preparation, the development is useful as an example of digital welfare delivery. The key governance test is whether technology reduces transaction costs without excluding applicants who need assisted or offline support.
