The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation held a follow-up review to accelerate drinking-water coverage in tribal areas under PM-JANMAN and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA). The immediate administrative task is to identify habitations that remain outside the verified coverage lists.

States and Union Territories were asked to harmonise records from PM-JANMAN, DA-JGUA, SurveySetu and the Jal Jeevan Mission’s information system. District administrations are expected to validate findings through district-level mechanisms before proposals are sent for consideration. Several States indicated that proposals for identified villages would be submitted during October.

The development is important because “saturation” programmes can fail when databases use different village identifiers, coverage definitions or update cycles. A household may be missing from one list even when another system records the habitation. Data reconciliation is therefore not a technical side issue; it affects who is counted, funded and ultimately served.
