The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying says the Lumpy Skin Disease situation is currently under control, with 3,461 active cases reported mainly among young, unvaccinated or vulnerable cattle. States and Union territories have been asked to maintain vaccination, ring vaccination, isolation, movement controls, vector management and transparent reporting.
The disease matters economically because cattle health affects milk production, farm incomes and rural livelihoods. It also illustrates the importance of veterinary surveillance and coordinated animal-health systems in a country with a very large livestock population.
