India has administered more than 80 lakh HPV vaccine doses under the national campaign launched in February 2026, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The programme provides a free, voluntary single-dose vaccination to 14-year-old girls. The ministry says Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram have reached 100% coverage, while Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Assam have crossed 90%.
HPV vaccination is a long-term cervical-cancer prevention strategy. The public-health challenge now is to maintain high coverage, robust adverse-event surveillance and clear communication so that vaccine confidence remains strong.
