India's first medal of the 2026 Asian Games came in shooting, with Sonam Maskar, Elavenil Valarivan and Vidarsa Vinod K winning silver in the women's 10m air rifle team event.
China won gold with a combined 1904.2, a world-record score. India finished second and stayed 0.9 points ahead of Japan, which took bronze with 1897.1.
Maskar was India's top scorer in qualification with 634.1, while Valarivan scored 633.5. Both advanced to the individual final, giving India an early medal and two individual finalists from the same qualification round.
