Reuters ने 10 September को sources के हवाले से रिपोर्ट किया कि India 12-13 September के New Delhi BRICS summit में members की central-bank digital currencies को cross-border payments के लिए link करने का proposal आगे बढ़ा रहा है. यह official digital currencies को connect करने का idea है, single BRICS currency बनाने का नहीं.
Potential benefit faster और cheaper settlement हो सकता है, खासकर जब payment systems multiple correspondent banks के बिना value exchange कर सकें. लेकिन interoperability सिर्फ software problem नहीं है. Compatible technical standards, legal rules, identity-compliance systems, exchange-rate arrangements और पर्याप्त CBDC adoption जरूरी होंगे.
Geopolitical constraints भी महत्वपूर्ण हैं. BRICS members की sanctions exposure, capital controls, security concerns और dollar system के साथ relations अलग हैं. India ने payment connectivity को efficiency project की तरह frame किया है, dollar को global reserve currency से replace करने की योजना की तरह नहीं. UPSC के लिए CBDC interoperability, common currency और de-dollarisation का फर्क याद रखें.
