The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved 20% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment to the posts of Jail Warder and Enforcement Constable in the Transport Department, according to The Indian Express.

Former Agniveers covered by the decision will also receive a three-year relaxation in the maximum age limit. Horizontal reservation operates across existing vertical categories rather than creating a separate vertical caste or community category.

The decision is part of a wider policy question created by the Agnipath model: how governments design post-service pathways for personnel who complete a short military tenure. The practical impact will depend on recruitment rules, eligibility conditions and implementation details issued by the state.
