The UAE is expanding the role of ports and energy infrastructure on its eastern coast as it seeks to reduce exposure to disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. Fujairah and associated pipelines provide access to the Arabian Sea without requiring all exports to pass through the narrow waterway.
The strategy matters for India because the UAE is a major trade and energy partner. Alternative routes can improve resilience for crude, refined products and other cargo during regional tension, though bypass capacity cannot fully replace the enormous volumes that normally move through Hormuz.
