The Ministry of Tribal Affairs held the first meeting of its Working Group on Tribal Languages on 15 October, bringing together institutions including the Central Institute of Indian Languages, IITs, universities and language-preservation organisations. The group is preparing a roadmap for documentation, digital preservation and promotion of tribal languages.

The Ministry is positioning Adi Vaani as a national tribal-language repository. Digital archiving can help preserve vocabulary, oral traditions and language resources, but effective preservation also requires community ownership, intergenerational transmission, education and careful treatment of culturally sensitive knowledge.

For civil-services preparation, language preservation connects cultural rights, tribal policy, education, technology and intangible heritage. A repository is an enabling infrastructure, not a substitute for living use of languages within communities.
