Maritime-security warnings around the Strait of Hormuz remained elevated after UKMTO reported multiple tanker incidents in which vessels were struck by unknown projectiles. In one case, a crude tanker was hit while completing an outbound transit; another vessel south of Iran’s Lavan Island suffered a fire after a reported impact. Crew were reported safe in the incidents described by UKMTO.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards separately said several tankers had caught fire or exploded and that one had struck a naval mine. Reuters said it could not independently verify the Iranian claims, and it was not clear whether all of the reported incidents referred to the same vessels.
The Strait is a critical energy chokepoint. Persistent shipping disruption can raise freight and insurance costs, affect oil prices and create inflation risks for import-dependent economies including India. The immediate facts remain fluid, so verified maritime notices should be distinguished from unconfirmed claims by conflict parties.
