Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that no appeals had been filed against electoral-roll name deletions in 12 states where the Special Intensive Revision process had been completed.
The Election Commission provides multiple appeal stages, including approaches to district authorities, the Chief Electoral Officer and eventually the courts. Kumar suggested that low awareness may be one reason the available appeals mechanism has not been used.
The institutional question is important: an electoral-roll revision is not judged only by the number of corrections made, but also by whether affected citizens know their rights, receive reasons for deletion and can access an effective remedy.
