Rapido fined ₹10 lakh over prompts pushing riders to pay more

The consumer regulator found misleading tipping prompts and interface design in the booking process.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority has fined Rapido operator Roppen Transportation Services ₹10 lakh over booking prompts that encouraged riders to increase payment, according to a September 15 government release.

The regulator identified confirm shaming and interface interference, including a colour-coded pricing slider. It directed the platform to discontinue the misleading practices.

Rapido argued that extra payments were voluntary and did not determine whether matching continued. CCPA rejected that defence, saying the company had not substantiated claims that paying more improved a rider's chances.

The decision puts the timing and design of payment requests under scrutiny, alongside their wording.
