The Ministry of Rural Development has approved 45 road works in Mizoram under PMGSY-IV Batch 1 for 2026-27. Together, the projects cover 509.54 km and have an estimated cost of ₹710.40 crore.
According to the Ministry, the package will provide all-weather road connectivity to 48 habitations for the first time, improving access to schools, hospitals and rural markets. Separately, 367 road works covering 4,935 km and seven bridges worth ₹3,412 crore have already been sanctioned for the state under PMGSY.
For the Northeast, road connectivity is both a welfare and productivity issue. The development impact will depend on timely execution, maintenance quality, slope and drainage engineering, and whether better roads translate into lower travel times and stronger market access.
