The Indian Ministry of Finance and HM Treasury published a joint statement on 7 October from the fourth India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue, which had been held in London on 29 September. Regulators from both countries discussed capital markets, insurance, pensions, asset management, sustainable finance and fintech.
Participants included the RBI, SEBI, IFSCA, PFRDA and IRDAI from India and the Bank of England and Financial Conduct Authority from the UK. The format is intended to support practical regulatory cooperation rather than negotiate a single trade agreement.
Financial-market dialogue can reduce regulatory friction and improve information sharing, but domestic regulators retain their own statutory mandates. Cooperation does not automatically harmonise rules or create mutual market access.
For civil-services preparation, the dialogue shows how economic diplomacy increasingly operates through specialised regulator-to-regulator channels. It also connects bilateral relations with capital-market development, fintech and sustainable finance.
