Uttar Pradesh recorded 66.5 mm of rain between September 25 and the morning of September 27, far above the normal 7.6 mm for that period, according to the state relief commissioner cited by Reuters. More than 1,000 houses were reported damaged.
Nepalese authorities warned of possible flash floods across dozens of districts as river levels rose. The episode highlights the need to distinguish short-duration extreme rainfall, river flooding and landslide risk when assessing disaster preparedness across the Himalayan and Gangetic region.
