HealthHealth Ministry asks States to enforce visible display of healthcare service rates
The Centre has asked States and UTs to review compliance with applicable rules requiring clinical establishments to display service charges clearly, including in local language and English where the central framework applies.

The Union Health Secretary has written to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories asking them to ensure effective compliance with applicable requirements for clinical establishments to display rates for healthcare services and facilities. Under the Clinical Establishments framework where it applies, rate information is to be displayed conspicuously in the local language and English.
The 12 October communication is an enforcement and transparency push, not a new nationwide uniform price schedule. Health is a State subject, and States where the central Clinical Establishments Act does not apply use their respective regulatory frameworks. States and UTs were also asked to encourage transparent display of package rates for international patients travelling on Medical or AYUSH visas.
For civil-services preparation, the issue illustrates cooperative implementation in a State subject, consumer information and health-sector regulation. Price transparency can reduce information asymmetry and billing disputes, but it does not by itself regulate the level of prices or guarantee affordability, quality or insurance coverage.
