The Home Ministry on 15 October highlighted Assam's continuing narcotics crackdown, reporting 945 arrests in 547 cases and seizures valued at more than ₹182 crore. Action has also been reported against 703 identified hotspots, while attachment of properties worth nearly ₹31 crore is under process.
The statement linked the State-level enforcement drive with the national Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026-29, which places emphasis on dismantling networks and attacking their financial foundations. These are official enforcement figures; arrests and seizures should not be conflated with convictions or final judicial findings.
For civil-services preparation, narcotics control requires policing, financial investigation, border management, public health and rehabilitation. Seizure metrics can show enforcement activity but should be complemented by conviction rates, network disruption, demand reduction and treatment outcomes.
