The Automotive Research Association of India has inaugurated new testing infrastructure aimed at electric and next-generation mobility. An Advanced Battery Laboratory, developed with an investment of about ₹55 crore, will support battery testing, validation, safety assessment and performance evaluation for electric and hybrid vehicles.
ARAI also opened an advanced two-dynamometer facility for e-axles and EV powertrains. The institute said the infrastructure is intended to support design development, certification, optimisation and export-compliance testing. A separate collaboration is planned to strengthen crash-testing capacity, including for battery-electric vehicles.
Testing capacity is a less visible but critical part of industrial policy. As India expands EV manufacturing, domestic labs can reduce dependence on overseas validation, improve regulatory enforcement and help manufacturers meet both Indian and export standards.
